THREE FLASHBACK SCENES FROM HIS NEW ‘MANICDOTAL MEMOIR’

Scene One: Rain.

The Vancouver Coliseum.

Standing in the boxing ring, the crowd howling.

Lights blurred.

 Cameras everywhere.

 Hitting the canvas.

 Jumping up…

Scene Two:  North Park St.

The home of the Diddy Wah Diddy Puppet Troupe.

Laura and Sandy Lamb.

Large oval table in the dining room.

Hot and cold running friends.

Paying out two hundred dollars for a large room.

Living on mayonaise and bread sneaked from the kitchen.

Scene Three:  Standing on the stage at the Memorial Hall, Christ Church delivering ten lines from every play by Shakespeare.

John Lennon has just been gunned down in New York.

For God’s sake let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the death of kings.

Howard Siegel standing beside the door of his restaurant giving out the news to all and sundry.

A hint of the macabre about that man.

 Shock.

Sidles and laughter the only recourse.
